Measuring to order shutters is much easier than you think. Remember these important things:
1. Use a steel measuring tape
2. Measure to the nearest eighth of an inch - don't round off measurements.
3. Indicate clearly the width and height. Remember width first, then height.
4. Remember for Inside Mount Only - measure the EXACT WINDOW SIZE OPENING. Do NOT take deductions. Our factory takes those allowances.
5. Remember for Outside Mount Only - Follow the details below
Outside Mount
In all cases make sure you measure top middle and bottom for height and left, right and middle for width. The reason is windows are often uneven.
1. Measure window width in 2 different places, at the top and at the bottom of the window.
2. Measure window height in 2 different places, from the top of the sill to the top of the window frame. NOTE: If you have a marble or tiled sill the sill can be covered by the shutter. In this case your height measurement needs to be taken from under the sill to the top of the window.
3. Measure the sill projection, also in 3 places. Left, middle, and right. If the projection is more than 3/4" this must be indicated. The shutter frame must be made to accommodate this condition.
4. In conditions where there is less than 1 5/8" from the top of the window to the ceiling, moulding or any shelving above please indicate. This would be noted as a max top. Also indicate if there is less than 1 5/8" from the bottom of the window to the floor, moulding or piece of furniture below. This would be noted as a max bottom.
5. In conditions where there is less than 1 5/8" on either side of the window because of another wall or built in furniture exists please indicate. This would be noted as a max left, or a max right.
6. The frames of the shutters are 1 5/8" wide. Clearance less than that will interfere with your installation if you do not indicate this.
Inside Mount
In all cases make sure you measure top middle and bottom for height and left, right and middle for width. The reason is windows are often uneven.
1. Measure window width in 3 different places. Top, middle and bottom. Give us the smallest measurement.
2. Measure window height in 3 different places. Left, middle and right. Give us the smallest measurement.
3. Give us exact measurements. We will make the proper deductions to fit your opening.
4. Inside mounted shutters need to have a clearance in the depth (front to back) of 2 1/2". Inside mounted shutters come with or without sill plate. We welcome you to email us pictures of your windows if you are unsure of the measuring process.
